Title: Daisy Jones & The Six
Author: Taylor Jenkins Reid
Genre: Historical Fiction
Synopsis: (From Goodreads)
Daisy is a girl coming of age in L.A. in the late sixties, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s twenty, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things.
Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne. On the eve of their first tour, his girlfriend Camila finds out she’s pregnant, and with the pressure of impending fatherhood and fame, Billy goes a little wild on the road.
Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes that the key to supercharged success is to put the two together. What happens next will become the stuff of legend.
Taylor Jenkins Reid does it again with her newest novel, told in oral history form of the rise and sudden disappearance of Daisy Jones and the band The Six. The novel walks the reader through the discovery of Daisy Jones' and The Six's separate discoveries and how they eventually created an album together.
The relationship between Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne is magnetic. But Billy Dunne, a recovering alcoholic, is actually married. What's so wonderful about this book is that we hear from so many people: all of the band members, Billy and Daisy, and Billy's wife, Camilla Dunne.
Don't try to guess how this story ends. Everyone has their theories about the split of Daisy Jones & The Six, but know one really knows for sure. Set in the 70's and full of sex, drugs, and rock and roll, you'll read about Daisy and Billy's growing attraction, pianist Karen and Billy's brother, Graham's, secret love affair, Eddie's desire for rock and roll and none of that pop stuff, and so much more.
In my head, Daisy talks with a slight twang, Camilla's voice is steady and commanding, and Billy is the epitome of 70's rock. These characters are at the center of this epic story about love, music, writing from the heart, and how addiction can take you places you never thought you'd go.
I loved getting inside the head of these characters. It felt like I was watching a documentary, which is why I'm so excited we're getting an Amazon limited series. In the back of the book are the lyrics to the infamous Aurora album and someday soon, we're going to actually hear the record.
I highly recommend getting your hands on a copy of this book. Then come back and tell me what you think!
